General Therapy FAQs

Everything you need to know about therapy with Dr. Diana

What ages do you work with?

Children, adolescents, young adults, and adults on a case-by-case basis.

How do I know if therapy is right for me or my child?

It’s normal for children to experience ups and downs, but if your child is consistently struggling with emotions, behavior, or relationships—and those challenges are starting to affect their daily life—therapy can be incredibly helpful. Some signs to look for include persistent anxiety, frequent meltdowns or outbursts, difficulty concentrating, trouble at school, changes in sleep or appetite, social withdrawal, or ongoing conflict at home.

You don’t need to wait for things to feel “serious” before reaching out. Therapy can be a proactive, supportive space to help your child better understand their feelings, build emotional regulation skills, and improve their ability to cope with stress. As a parent, if your gut is telling you something feels off, it’s worth exploring. I’m happy to talk through your concerns during a free 15-minute consultation to help you decide if therapy is the right next step.

What happens during the first session?

The first session is all about getting to know you (or your child) and laying the foundation for effective, personalized support.

For children and teens under 18, I begin by meeting with the parent or caregiver alone for the initial intake session. This gives us space to discuss concerns, developmental history, school or social challenges, and any relevant medical or mental health background. It also allows us to talk openly about goals for therapy and how I can best support your child and family.

For individuals 18 and older, the first session focuses on gathering a comprehensive picture of your background, current challenges, and mental health history. We’ll talk about what brought you to therapy, identify your goals, and begin forming a treatment plan tailored to your needs.

Whether you're a parent seeking help for your child or a young adult navigating life on your own, this first session is designed to be collaborative, respectful, and comfortable—setting the stage for meaningful progress moving forward.

How long are sessions?

Typically 45–50 minutes.

How often will we meet?

Therapy sessions are typically held once a week, especially at the beginning. Meeting weekly allows us to build a strong therapeutic relationship, create momentum, and make meaningful progress toward your goals.

As treatment evolves and symptoms improve, we may adjust the frequency to biweekly or as-needed, based on what’s most helpful and appropriate for your situation. I always tailor the schedule to meet the unique needs of each client or family, and we’ll regularly check in to make sure the pace feels right.

Consistency is key—especially for children and teens—so we’ll work together to find a rhythm that supports growth and long-term success.

How long will therapy last?

This varies based on each individual. We will regularly reassess progress and goals.

Do you offer virtual sessions?

Yes—telehealth and in-person options available.

Do you take insurance?

Yes, BCBS.

If you prefer private pay or are out-of-network, I can provide you with a superbill to submit to your insurance company for reimbursement.

What are your fees?

Fee schedule ranges from $170 to $225

What if I’m not sure therapy is the right fit?

It’s completely normal to feel uncertain when starting therapy—finding the right therapist is an important part of the process. That’s why I offer a free 15-minute phone consultation to give us both a chance to connect, discuss your concerns, and determine whether working together feels like a good match.

If at any point I believe your needs fall outside of my areas of expertise, or that another provider may be better suited to help, I will be honest with you and provide appropriate referrals to trusted colleagues or resources. My priority is making sure you or your child gets the support you truly need—even if that’s not with me.

Therapy is most effective when there’s a strong therapeutic connection, and I’m committed to helping you find the right path forward.

What is your cancellation policy?

I understand that life can be unpredictable, and sometimes schedules need to change. However, in order to respect both your time and mine, all appointments must be cancelled at least 24 hours in advance.

If you cancel within less than 24 hours or do not show up for your scheduled session, a $150 late cancellation or no-show fee will be charged. This policy helps ensure that appointment times are used effectively and allows me to offer availability to other clients who may be waiting for services.

If you have a true emergency or unexpected circumstance, please reach out—I’ll always do my best to work with you.
